The American Indian Mental Health Advisory Council (AIMHAC) provides to the State of Minnesota mental health input from the Tribal perspective. The primary objective of the AIMHAC is to assist the State of Minnesota and co-providers in designing programming and methods of service provision—including a culturally competent and inclusive system of delivery—thereby closing the gaps in the recognized disparities of Tribal access to, and the quality of, mental health services.
The AIMHAC is comprised of 16 appointed representatives. The Tribal Business Councils from each of the 11 reservations appoint one representative to provide participation in the decision making processes. Another four representatives are appointed from the urban entities that provide mental health services to Tribal people off reservation. The 16th representative is the member-at-large, appointed by the AIMHAC. It is the responsibility of the appointed members to keep the respective Tribal Councils and Board members apprised of the decisions made by the AIMHAC which affect the provision of mental health services to Tribal people.
The American Indian Mental Health Advisory Council, in the interest of expanding network opportunities and participation in the provision of culturally competent mental health services to American Indian people, has contracted for the design and maintenance of this web-site. Please browse the site for answers to questions such as: “What services are available on a specific Reservation?” “Who should be contacted regarding a Tribal member?” The site will provide simple answers to frequently asked question as well as contact information for Tribal and Urban entities providing mental health services to Tribal people.
Thank you for your interest, and ENJOY!
